Spain | 6 days in Madrid

∙ 11pm - Night Tour (2h)

Madrid is a popular destination for partygoers with a vibrant bar and club scene. We will start the evening by meeting you at your hotel, and heading towards the popular Chueca Gay district, where you will find a wide variety of gay pubs and bars.​

At the end of the tour, towards 1am (welcome to Spanish time schedules!), we will offer you some last recommendations for you to visit the newest and hottest clubs or the most traditional ones, because Madrid has been offering the most exciting gay nightlife for more than 35 years.

12pm – City Center Tour (3h)

Starting our journey in Puerta del Sol, the heart of the capital, we will go into the imperial Madrid walking the main street of Calle Mayor, where you will discover some of the oldest buildings in Madrid as Torre de los Lujanos, palaces of the XVI and XVII centuries, as well as two of the most beautiful squares in Madrid: Plaza Mayor and Plaza de la Villa, and beautiful examples of XIX century architecture as Mercado de San Miguel.

Then we will visit architectural jewels such as the Almudena Cathedral, the Royal Palace, Plaza de Oriente or the Royal Theatre.

We will finish our promenade in Plaza de España, finding in our way the Spanish Senate and the old Palace of Manuel Godoy.

10am – Retiro Park Tour (3h)

We will start our morning visiting the largest city park, the Retiro Park, where we will discover all its secrets and stories, because it was a Royal Residence.

We will continue along the Paseo del Prado, where we find the beautiful Museo del Prado, the famous Cibeles Fountain and the impressive City Hall.

10am – San Lorenzo del Escorial Tour (4h)

In this four-hour tour we will visit San Lorenzo de El Escorial and the Monastery of El Escorial, one of the most emblematic royal places in Madrid.​

This monastery was built in the XVI century and it was conceived as a palace, a church, a library and a convent, as well as a place to bury the different Spanish kings. We will visit its wonderful basilica and we will also take a nice promenade in the Jardín de los Frailes (the Friar’s Garden).​

Afterwards, we will have a relaxing walk around the San Lorenzo de El Escorial villa, as well as the different palaces and buildings that form the old town of the city.​

Before coming back to Madrid, we will finish our visit with what is known as ‘Casita de Arriba’ gardens, a small Royal Palace that is, still these days, one of the royal family’s palaces.

After breakfast, take this day to enjoy the city and roam it on your own. 

Get lost in the small streets of the gay Chueca district and observe the local gay life of Madrid.

Madrid is a budget friendly shopping destination, so can shop until you drop at the Salamanca and Chueca districts. 

If a quieter day is in need, simply pack up some picnic products and hit the wonderful green Parque del Retiro. Once the property of the Spanish Monarchy, this currently public park is a green sanctuary of the city and the home for the beautiful Chrystal House.

As evening falls, an optional night pub crawl is available with an OUTstanding Travel representative to take in the local gay life of the city and the hot places to be in! There’s nothing like bar hopping to end the day!
